The Red Roses, England women’s national rugby union team, have named a balanced and forward-looking squad for the upcoming Women’s Six Nations Championship, underlining their status as clear favourites to retain the title and pursue another Grand Slam.

Head coach John Mitchell has selected a 38-player group that combines a strong core of proven internationals with a number of emerging talents. The squad includes 25 players who were part of England’s recent Rugby World Cup success, alongside seven uncapped players, signalling a measured transition rather than a wholesale rebuild.

Leadership Change but Continuity Maintained

One of the most notable developments is the appointment of Megan Jones as captain. She steps into the role in the absence of regular skipper Zoe Aldcroft, who is unavailable.

Jones, an experienced international and former vice-captain, is expected to provide continuity in leadership, supported by a group of senior players including Amy Cokayne and Alex Matthews.

Strength in Depth Across the Squad

England’s squad remains packed with high-calibre players across all positions. In the backs, Ellie Kildunne continues to be a standout attacking threat, while experienced half-backs such as Natasha Hunt and Zoe Harrison provide control and tactical direction.

The forward pack, traditionally a cornerstone of England’s dominance, retains its physical edge with players such as Marlie Packer and Abbie Ward, ensuring continuity in both set-piece strength and breakdown efficiency.

Introducing New Talent

The inclusion of seven uncapped players reflects a strategic effort to build depth and maintain long-term competitiveness. With several established players absent or transitioning, the new additions are expected to provide fresh energy while gaining valuable international experience.

Favourites for the Title

England enter the tournament on an extended unbeaten run and are targeting a seventh consecutive Women’s Six Nations title. Their consistency, squad depth and winning culture place them firmly ahead of their rivals.

France are widely regarded as the most likely challengers, while Ireland have shown signs of improvement in recent seasons. However, both sides face a significant task to match England’s level over the course of the championship.

Grand Slam Within Reach

With a settled structure, experienced leadership and emerging talent, England are strongly positioned to complete another Grand Slam campaign.

Anything less than a clean sweep would be considered a surprise, underlining the high standards that now define the Red Roses as they prepare for another Six Nations campaign.
